Moving Jesus

"Out of the Darkness" is the sculpture that had long been the prominent piece of art in our sanctuary. Artist Rudy Torrini depicted that moment when Jesus became reanimated in the tomb. He said he was depicting Jesus throwing off his garments and emerging like out of a chrysalis.

The piece is actually made out of fiberglass and weighs less than 200 lbs, but it is large and awkward to handle.

All of the weight was actually on this one "nail."

Getting it down gave a chance to dust and clean behind it...

... as well as the sculpture itself.

It was also a unique opportunity to see it close up.

Now it is hung above the choir loft.

We'll soon have a chance to see what we think of it there.

  2. I love that we will still be able to see this in the church and that we will be receiving a new piece of art showing Our Lord! Thank you to all that contributed to enhancing our worship space. It's beautiful!
