This day in 1984 was celebrated as "Fr. Steinhausen Day" at St. Columbkille Catholic School.
Then Principal Bob Voboril said, "When I came to St. Columbkille's, the first thing he told me, was that if our school wasn't Catholic it wouldn't be anything. He insists that the religious formation of our youngsters be the first priority."
Voboril also credited Fr. Steinhausen as critical in the school's growth. Despite a large parish debt he authorized the first contract with a lay principal, expansion of the school's salary scale and permitted hiring an additional teacher rather than reimpose limits on class size.
The student council gave him gag gifts of the right to change his birthday to sometime other than December 25th, a permanent hall pass and a locker in the school.
In one week (October 23rd) there will be a celebration of 95 years of the school. Alumni, their parents and friends of the school are all invited to visit from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
