Stations of the Cross with Easter Eggs

Last week the students at Sacred Heart Preschool visited the church ...

... to pray the Stations of the Cross.

Each student brought an Easter Egg.

At each station we opened one of the eggs ...

... to learn a little more about that station.

Before we left, we took a moment to talk to God
in our hearts and thank Jesus for dying for us.

How Many to Change a Light Bulb?

This morning it took three to change a light bulb.

As mentioned before, Just as the work on the crucifix was finished, the spotlight on the Rising Christ burned out. This morning it was replaced. We're hoping that by having the bulb dimmed and just on during Mass, the new bulb will last longer. Otherwise we'll have three people playing with a ladder again.

What's Next?

Obviously (as we posted Saturday) work is continuing on the elevator. But what else is being done as part of the Source & Summit campaign?

After Easter, the SouthEast door and steps will be redone. When the church was designed, the SouthEast and NorthEast doors were thought of primarily as fire exits. But those doors are the main way many enter our church today. The steps will extended, the new door will have glass in it and there will be an overhang.

The organ speakers above the crucifix will be recovered.

Most of the cabinets will be removed from the old sacristy to create a sitting space that can be used by families before a wedding or a funeral.

So the work continues...

National Junior Honor Society

This afternoon the Sacred Heart Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society met.

Like all good things, it began with prayer.

Current members lit a candle, representing the five characteristics of a member. They are Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character.

A brief reminder of each was given.

Our newest members made their pledges.

Our newest members took turns signing the log ...

 ... and being congratulated.

Mrs. Monico reminded the students that they did not achieve this on their own. They should thank God and their parents for their help. In years to come, when they are tempted to think otherwise, they should recall that their parents always have their best interests at heart.

Congratulations to the newest members of the Sacred Heart Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society.

Palm Sunday is March Madness

Take the excitement level of Harvard's first tournament win ...

... or Robert Morris beating Kentucky ...

... or even Minnesota beating UCLA ...
... or what it will feel like if Creighton beats Duke ...

... and know that was the excitement
level at the first Palm Sunday.

Maybe Jesus stopped the donkey to pick up a child?

Maybe, like Pope Francis, he dismounted
when he saw a disabled man.

Take a moment to prayerfully image what it would like to be in a vigorous crowd as Jesus comes by. Imagine how you would feel as He rides past you. Imagine that he locks eyes with you and smiles.

Today we enter into Holy Week,
Enter it fully.

Elevator Movement

Over the last month, a lot of work
has been done for our elevator.

First, we had to take out part of a wall.

Then we needed to dig down ...

... before we could start to build up.

After Easter Sunday we should be cutting through the floor.

Living Stations of the Cross

Wednesday night our TEEN Faith group
led Living Stations of the Cross.
