A Little More Construction

After the new sacristy was finished, the plan was always to remodel the old sacristy. Now that the Source and Summit construction is completed and the Festival is passed, it seems like a good time to start.

So it has begun.

Once finished it will give some space for a bride before a wedding or some family before a funeral.

What's Next?

Obviously (as we posted Saturday) work is continuing on the elevator. But what else is being done as part of the Source & Summit campaign?

After Easter, the SouthEast door and steps will be redone. When the church was designed, the SouthEast and NorthEast doors were thought of primarily as fire exits. But those doors are the main way many enter our church today. The steps will extended, the new door will have glass in it and there will be an overhang.

The organ speakers above the crucifix will be recovered.

Most of the cabinets will be removed from the old sacristy to create a sitting space that can be used by families before a wedding or a funeral.

So the work continues...

The Cabinets Arrived

This week the cabinets arrived

for the new sacristy.

 

They arrived as the electiricians were just finishing pulling some of the electrical lines for the room.

 

 

 

Even today, the work continues.

Building the Sacristy

Half of what was the chapel will become the new sacristy.

Last summer this area was closed up, but

 work has been in earnest there lately.

 The construction of a wall started at the top.

 

 

 

 

A lot of the work in the last few days has

 focused on the plumbing in the sacristy.

The sacristy will feature a sacrarium, which means some work in the basement as well. A sacrarium is drain that empties directly into soil and is used for disposing of water used to wash sacred items. So a hole has been cut into the basement floor and more work will need to be done so water can drain easily into the ground below the church.

Building Temporary Walls

Although we'll be able to celebrate Mass in the sanctuary this weekend, the construction will continue. Two temporary walls are being put in to allow seperate the work from the worship space.

One of the walls will seperate where the chapel was. A brick wall will be built in the center with the west side of the wall becoming our new sacristy and the east side becoming additional seating.

Another wall is being put in place in front of where the chapel will be built. When the work is done, these walls will come down.
