Easter Metaphors

Our parish preschoolers have been learning about the Easter Story. One way we understand Jesus’ story better is by looking at the signs of spring around us.

Last fall, we planted tulip bulbs. They didn’t look alive, but slowly we have seen them return to life in the warmth of the spring sun.

This spring, we watched our caterpillars go into their chrysalides. It looked as though they had died, but one day we were surprised to find a crysalid had opened and a beautiful butterfly had emerged, just as Jesus did on Easter.

This week we said good bye to our butterflies as we released them outdoors. We are sad to see them go, but happy they are free. We are happy to know that Jesus died so that we can one day see his father in heaven. We are happier still to know he rose from the dead and is still alive today!

Stations of the Cross

The preschoolers walked to church
to learn about the Stations of the Cross.

Once inside God’s house, the children waited quietly.

Each child received an Easter egg.

Inside the egg was the name and
description of one of the stations.

You can participate in Stations of the Cross today at 1 pm or 6 pm
in the Church. or you can come by almost anytime and pray them.

The "Good" News

In today's Gospel Jesus was in the Temple area and spoke the "Good News" to the Jews. At the end of today's Gospel we hear how they responded:

"So they picked up stones to throw at him."

So if the Good News is preach well here, there are plenty of stones to throw.

Our Parish Mission Week continues.

Dan has lunch at St. Columbkille Catholic School

Today our Parish Mission leader had lunch
at school with the 7th and 8th grade students.

He showed pictures of his family.

He chatted with the guys.

He visited also visited a few classrooms. He even got caught in a crowd of 5th graders lining up for gym. They tried to get him to run the Pacer with them, but didn't have any luck at that.

Watchful and Alert

Why was a church full of K-8

Juggling fire can definately get attention.

Parish Mission leader Dan DeMatte spoke and interacted with the
school students this morning as they got to know our mission leader.

The Parish Mission continues every night through Thursday.

Mass: 6:15 p.m.

Fr Wee is Moving

Dear Parishioners,

Last Monday (April 4th), I met with Archbishop Lucas who asked me if I would like to become the pastor of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Hooper and St. Lawrence Parish in Scribner, with possible additional teaching duties at Archbishop Bergan High School.

I said “yes” with mixed feelings. On one hand, I was humbled that Archbishop Lucas has confidence in me to be a pastor. On the other hand, I knew that it would mean leaving a wonderful community that I have come to love dearly. And as you are my family, I would like to be the one to let you know first.

As you know, in 2009, our city of Papillion was named number three in a national ranking, but as far as I am concerned, you, the parishioners, are Number One! It has been a wonderful four years here in your midst.

The usual Associate Pastor assignment is three years long. I am blessed that I was given an extra year here to be with you. I will not be leaving St. Columbkille until the third week of June.

When I mentioned to my dog, Cosmas, that we will be moving soon, I told him that Fr. Vitalis, who I will be replacing in Hooper, will be taking his 10 goats with him. Cosmas was disappointed that he would not have the chance to be the sheep dog (or rather, should I say, goat dog).

I look forward to making the most of my remaining time here.

God bless,
Fr. Wee

A Zoo Field Trip

Our preschool students have been learning about the ocean.

Thursday, we rode a bus to the zoo to see
some of the animals we had learned about.

We were lucky to have so many parent helpers.

We also visited the butterfly garden and the gorillas.

It was a special day to spend with our friends!
