True Beauty Revealed

In a culture that promotes selfishness and ingratitude, this ENDOW high school study group provides a much needed-forum for girls to grow in understanding of their God-given dignity and vocation as women. The study curriculum allows teens (14-18) to share their unique life experiences and embark on a journey to discover the truth about authentic feminism. Through this study and prayer, the young women will inevitably grow in knowledge and virtue, both of which will help them better love and serve others.

Along with scripture and catechetical knowledge, the teens will learn practical tips for applying the Church's teachings to their daily lives. Within the eight chapters, participants will discuss the nature of femininity and discover what it means to be created as women. They will have the opportunity to reflect on their personal development and character formation as well as examine their relationships with peers and the opposite sex.

Classes are Tuesdays & Thursdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. July 26th through August 18th. To register, visit http://www.endowonline.org/, click on the “Classes” tab.  The registration fee is $45 per girl.  Please contact Amy at 402.496.3465 for more information.

Happy Anniversary Pope Benedict!

Today is the 60th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Pope Benedict XVI. To celebrate, the Vatican has suggested the gift of one hour of Eucharistic Adoration praying for priests and vocations. We are suggesting you do that sometime between today and Friday. Friday is a day of prayer for priests. Our Teen Faith are leading an Hour of Power tonight at 9 p.m. to celebrate this milestone.

Small groups checked out the various areas -- such as the DTS space

Last night was the kickoff for TEEN faith. About thirty of our youth gathered in the Social Level for a common meal at 7:00 p.m. followed by activities. Last night they were in small groups and learned about the various activities that will take place on upcoming Wednedays.

Next week, they will have a Dead Theologian Society session with Fr. Steve Emanuel. Any High School students interested can gather in the Social Level at 7:00 pm for a meal first.

Welcome Nicole!

Today Nicole Cook returns to the parish staff as the Coordinator of Disciple Formation. Nicole (pictured above with her husband Tyler) has been a member of St. Columbkille since 2003 when she came to the parish as the director of music ministry. She left for a few years to work at her alma mater, Creighton University, as the assistant director of alumni relations, but has now returned to St. Columbkille to work with the youth ministry and adult formation programs.

As Fr. Damian explains it, "Nicole will provide the oversight for all formation programs for young people in high school through parishioners who are enjoying retirement. She will not be doing all the formation herself; she will simply be the person who ensures that the formation programs are running smoothly."

Nicole says, "I have missed working full-time in ministry, and am very much looking forward to returning to work at St. Columbkille! I feel very blessed to be a part of such a great community, and hope that I will be as much of a blessing to those I work with, as I know they will be to me."

Hour of Power Tonight

Tonight members of T.E.E.N. Faith lead the parish in an hour of prayer which included Eucharistic Adoration, Benediction, Contemporary Music.

While Hour of Power is being done monthly this year, the youth have enthusiasticly requested that Hour of Power be done weekly during Lent. How can you refuse a group of youth that want to spend more time with Jesus in adoration?

2009 National Catholic Youth Conference

The 2009 National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) was in Kansas City last week.

There were so many people there that the police closed the streets when events moved between the Conference Center and the Sprint Center.

It was great to have our youth in an environment where everyone was so enthusiastic about their faith.

Straight from the gathering of all the US Bishops in Baltimore, Archbishop Lucas came to support the group and celebrate Mass with the delegation from the Archdiocese.

We expect the enthusiasm of the event to carry forward in our parish.

On a couple of side notes, watch the blog for a note about one of the people who participated. Also, ValLimar Jansen, who performed at NCYC, will lead our parish mission in February. So watch for that as well.

Young Neighbors in Action

15 of our youth participated in the Young Neighbors in Action Mission Trip to Winnebago a few weeks ago. Their task was to clean and spruce up the Veteran's Memorial Park (aka: Pow Wow Grounds.)

It wasn't all work as they also played and prayed together throughout the trip.
Thank you for being disciples and representing our parish to the world.

Youth Serve

15 of our youth and two young adults participated in Youth Serve recently along with people from St. Robert Bellarmine, St. Patrick in Elkhorn, and St. Mary in Bellevue.

They did work at Hillcrest Country Estates, Stephen Center, Keep Omaha Beautiful, Seven Oaks of Florence, Crestview Village Apartments, and A Woman's Touch

Part of the experience was the work itself. The process includes activities for the entire group

including helping them process whatthey see and experience. Many of the participants (Youth and Young Adults alike) experience first hand things they had never know about before.

We are excited by these disciples that are letting Christ's light shine.
