10 Years since Ordination

This evening Archbishop Lucas celebrated with those who were ordained deacons 40, 30, 20 or 10 years ago. One of those celebrating their 10th anniversary was Deacon David Krueger. Congratulations.

20 Years Ago Today

It was 20 years ago today that Eldon Lauber was ordained by Archbishop Elden Curtiss was ordained as a deacon and assigned to his parish, St. Columbkille.

Diaconate Anniversaries

Last night the diaconate community of the Omaha Archdiocese celebrated deacons who have hit significant anniversaries of diaconate service. Above is a picture of the attending couples who have served for 30 years (and Archbishop Lucas).
 

Dcn Frank and Judy Mascarello were on hand as it has been 30 years since Frank's ordination.

It has already been ten years since Dcn Russ Perry's ordination as he and Patty enjoyed the evening.

Dcn Eldon and Judy Lauber were unable to attend last night, but it has now been twenty years since his ordination.

Fr Damian's Anniversary

Today is the anniversary of Fr. Damian's ordination. Long-time parishioners may remember one of Fr. Damian's classmates, Fr. Pat Henry, who who was an associate here as our current church was built.

40 Years

The Archbishop Bergan Council 6429 of the Knights of COlumbus celebrated their 40th anniversary in December.

It was a milestone that deserved celebration.

Deacon Eldon Lauber works with many engaged couples in their Marriage Preparation. When he talks with couples he can bring the experience of 50 year of marriage as he and Judy celebrated that milestone last week.

Happy Anniversary Pope Benedict!

Today is the 60th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Pope Benedict XVI. To celebrate, the Vatican has suggested the gift of one hour of Eucharistic Adoration praying for priests and vocations. We are suggesting you do that sometime between today and Friday. Friday is a day of prayer for priests. Our Teen Faith are leading an Hour of Power tonight at 9 p.m. to celebrate this milestone.

The Omaha World Herald had the following editorial in their Saturday paper:

Religious devotion has enriched the cultural heritage of Nebraska for many generations. This weekend will mark a special occasion for Catholics in Omaha and northeast Nebraska: the 125th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Omaha.

At its creation by Pope Leo XIII in October 1885, the Archdiocese covered all of Nebraska and Wyoming and included a Catholic population of around 62,000. In the present day, the Archdiocese encompasses 23 Nebraska counties, with about 225,000 Catholics.

Over the past 125 years, the number of parishes has increased from 64 to 132, and the number of schools, from 29 to 75.

Even in the fast-paced, high-tech 21st century, religious faith continues to speak deeply to the needs of many Nebraskans. Which is why this weekend's anniversary for the Archdiocese will hold great meaning for so many local Catholics.
