At our Parish Mission Monday evening, Dr. Edward Sri presented A Biblical Walk through the Mass: Understanding what we Say and Do in the Liturgy. It was based on his book. The clip above is just a portion of what he discussed.
If you want to gain a better understanding of the Mass, the last session of Altaration is Monday, March 21 at 9 a.m. or 7 p.m. in the Steinhausen Center.On April 4th there will be a tour of all the space in the church. On April 11th we will meet in the Steinhausen Center to study the scritpural roots of the Mass.
After Dr. Sri's session Monday night, Fr. Vogel told some parishioners, "Now you know just a smidgen of why I'm a priest and why it's so awesome."

Tuesday, March 15th will be our parish Penance Service
We'll start in the sanctuary at 7:00 with a whole bunch of priests, then move to the Social Hall to celebrate the return of all the prodigal children with Wine, Cheese, Cookies and Lemonade.
Wednesday, March 16th will have Living Stations
TEEN Faith will lead us in Living stations of the Cross. It will start at 6:00 p.m. at the east end of our new parking lot (just north of Cornhusker/6th street.)
Live The Promise
Our parish mission will be next week and our mission leader, Jesse Manibusan, will be at our Masses this weekend. The mission will incorporate songs and stories of faith; sacraments; the good news and the tough news; where we shine, and when we haven't; and ultimately, how the love of God, through Christ, by the power of the Spirit, challenges us, motivates us, and ultimately changes us to be a great reflection of God's presence in the world (starting with our living, giving, sacrifice and service).
Jesse Manibusan, our mission leader, is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and teller of humorous tales. Well recognized throughout the country as a dynamic, eclectic speaker and musician, Jesse shares from his heart the love of Christ and the call to live out our baptism in every aspect of life.
Jesse is a familiar presence at diocesan conferences throughout the U.S. and Canada, serving as Master of Ceremonies at the 2013 National Catholic Youth Conference that many of our teens attended.
Jesse holds a master’s degree in multicultural ministries from the Franciscan School of Theology in Berkeley, California. Jesse resides in Grapevine, Texas, with his wife, Jodi, and their two children.
"God is big enough to handle when we are doubting or disobedient. The great mercy of God allows us to call out 'Help me past my unbelief,' or 'Help me past my time of doubt,' or just 'Help me!'"
Tonight we will have Reconciliation starting at 5 p.m. like usual. It will continue during the 6:15 Mass as if has been in Lent. Our Parish Reconciliation Service will begin at 7 p.m. led by Fr. Larry Gillick, SJ. Then we will have more confessors available.
During our Parish Mission, Fr. Larry Gillick shared the Irish expression, "Fill your boots man," which means that you should be who you are meant to be. Live the life God meant for you.
Sr. Bernadette O'Reilly reminded us that each of us has a task that God wants us to undertake. While we should understand that it is not up to us to complete it, there is no excuse for not starting.
Since everything we do is for the sake of happiness, shouldn't we understand how it works? Our Lenten Parish Mission is designed to do just that. Jim Berlucchi, M.T.S. is co-founder of the Spitzer Center and will help us better understand happiness and how we long for it.
The mission begins tomorrow (Monday.) Each evening there will be Mass at 6:15 p.m. The mission will follow at 7:00 finishing with Night Prayer at 8:15. There will be a reception afterwards in the Social Level. There is a Children's Mission that will be concurrent with the adult mission. There is also babysitting available in the Steinhausen Center.
He visited also visited a few classrooms. He even got caught in a crowd of 5th graders lining up for gym. They tried to get him to run the Pacer with them, but didn't have any luck at that.
Dan DeMatte is leading our parish mission next week. He will speak at the end of all the Masses this weekend. Some of Dan's time in seminary was captured in the A&E reality show "God or the Girl?" Here is a video which encorporates some of that footage:
After each night of the mission there have been snacks. Monday they were provided by the Women's Guild. On Tuesday they were served by members of TEEN Faith.
Last night the School Advisory Council provided popcorn and M & Ms served in bags decorated by students.
We thank all three groups that helped us relax afterwards and spend time as a parish family.
Some fo the parish staff were able to have lunch with ValLimar yesterday. She said, "It is so great to visit a parish where you can just see the love people have for one another as part of their parish family."
When asked what the after effects of her mission typically are, she said, "It continues. Largely because the children insist on continuing it."
It was also a good chance to quiz ValLimar on what she sees being done around the country and how we can do a better job of fulfilling our parish mission to "Go and Make Disciples."
We thank ValLimar for the wonderful job she did leading her portion of our parish mission. It continues tonight with our Parish Reconciliation Service.
