Lincoln Field Trip

This morning the fourth grade students at
St. Columbkille Catholic School got on the bus ...

 ... and headed to Lincoln.

The first stop was the Nebraska State Capital.
There the tour guide taught everyone
how to get into the "sower" stance.

He also had everyone lay on their backs
to see the dome, pictured below.

The students sat in the chairs our state senators used
before Nebraska changed to a unicameral system.

Students also visited the State Supreme Court and learned
how the room was designed to muffle sound, yet
easily carry voices addressing the court.

After lunch, there was a visit to Morrill Hall. Displayed above
are mammoth bones that were discovered by a chicken.

Students visited some areas in groups. Above, students
read a story about the "Buffalo People" and how
their lives revolved around the buffalo herds.

In small groups students also looked at items they used from buffalo and tried to match them with items we use today. This led to a spirited statement by one student who strongly believes it is better to drink water from a cup rather than a buffalo's bladder.

It was a busy, quick trip which gave
students a lot to talk about.
