What do you think?

We're four weeks into construction and this weekend we were finally able to gather in the sanctuary for Masses. What do you think of the progress so far?

  1. I think is looks very nice, but please leave the risen Christ sculpture where it is. To have a crucifix and the risen Christ on the same wall completely destroys the original artistic and architectural schema of the space. Yes, a crucifix is required for the Eucharistic celebration, however a processional crucifix may serve that purpose. Please reconsider this matter.

  2. Using a processional crucifix may fulfill the letter of the 2002 instructions but not the spirit of them. The original artistic and architectural schema of the space will be changed by the tabernacle and the wall of glass which will seperate the chapel from the sanctuary. Do you think we will need something on the right to balance what is being added on the left?

  3. Thank you your reply. I do appreciate it very much. I don't thank that there needs to be something on the left to compensate for the new chapel area. Really, the altar should be center of attention in the worship space and I'm afraid that moving the very large risen Christ sculpture to the left will distract from that. The risen Christ sculpture makes a very powerful visual statement because of its size. If you have two huge sculptures on one wall, it seems to throw the entire perspective off.

If you are intent upon having a larger crucifix, maybe you could consider an option similar to that at St. Robert Bellarmine's. Leave the risen Christ sculpture where it is an add a larger (but not as large as the risen Christ), free-standing crucifix near the ambo.

  4. I like the new flooring and altar area especially--the white stone under the altar is very striking and even more beautiful than the mock-ups!
The stain glassed windows truly give the church a finished appearance and add more color to the beautiful brick walls.
Thank you Fr. Damian for your hard work, patience and listening to all the parishioners!
