Here are a few acts from the Talent Show held at St. Columbkille Catholic School as part of the celebration of Catholic Schools Week:

Pizza Night

Last night was Pizza Night!

 The teachers and staff of St. Columbkille Catholic School put together a fun evening for the whole family. It was full of food, activities and simply getting to spend time together.

Mass & Doughnuts: It's Catholic Schools Week

To celebrate Catholic Schools Week, many families came to sit at Mass with their 3rd, 4th or 5th graders. Then they went to the Social Hall for doughnuts.

Tomorrow the 6th, 7th and 8th graders will have Mass together with families. On Wednesday will be the chance for Kindergarten through 2nd graders to have Mass & Doughnuts with their families.

Superheroes Bowl

Superheroes gathered for the Athletics

 Program's 3rd Annual Bowl Night.

It was a fun night raising money to keep fees affordable.

Basketball Games Aplenty

 Basketball season is well underway.

The New Office is Under Construction

The "Yellow House" at 204 East 6th street shows hints on the outside of construction.

It is more obvious on the inside with

 some before and after pictures.

There will be an addition to the north side of the house. The reception area will be in this new addition.

When finished, there will be no access  to the building from the south (street) side. The main entrance will be on the west side of the building into the addition. Thus the entrance will be towards the church.

In addition to the reception area, the present building is being remodeled to contain seven offices. We expect to move our staff from the present office to this building in June. So the construction is in progress.

Searching? Come & See

“What are you looking for?”

I noticed something peculiar recently -- four people, including two police officers, looking out into a grassy field, apparently looking for something.

I'd been driving with my daughter, Mary, at the time, taking her to class at the nearby community college.

"Dear Lord," I prayed out loud, "help them to find whatever they're searching for."

As soon as the words left my mouth, I realized what a loaded prayer that was. It seems we're all looking for something, even if we don't know what it is we're searching for.

I thought back to last Sunday's Gospel reading, in which Jesus asked his first disciples: "What are you looking for?"

As I drove I especially thought of young people like Mary and my son John, also college-age, who was fresh on my mind because he'd just sent me a text message about doing some laundry at our house. So I included those two in a particular way in my prayer, that they might find whatever they're looking for, in their deepest hearts, as long as it leads to God.

Of course, ultimately what each of us is looking for is God. The two disciples in Sunday's Gospel responded to Jesus by asking "where are you staying?"

He replied: "Come, and you will see."

Shortly after dropping off Mary at school, I took a wrong turn and briefly got off course. Ironically, I began searching, too -- for my way home again.

So I included myself in my prayers, that all of us pilgrims on earth will find our Way: Jesus, the sure, direct route home to the Father.

Later, when John was home doing laundry, he told me about Twitter reports of a coyote being spotted in the field near the college. Perhaps that's what the police officers had been looking for.

I don't know if anyone ever found the coyote, but I'll continue my prayers -- for all of us as we search.

A Superstar School

Spirit Catholic Radio recently asked their listeners to vote for Catholic Schools that are Superstars. We're delighted to announce that St. Columbkille Catholic School was selected.

In many ways, this shows the wide support for our school in the community.

Volcanic

Some of the Scouts did a project on volcanoes. Because they were also studying volcanoes in their 4th grade science class, they brought their volcano in to show an eruption.

They were delighted to answer questions from their classmates at the end.
