What do you love most about you mom?

(To comply with our Safe Environment rules, we removed the names.)

Fr Damian in the Papillion Times

Here's an excerpt from Michael Batchelder's article in this week's issue of the Papillion Times.

Moving from St. Columbkille to St. Frances Cabrini, located at 10th and William streets, will be an adjustment for Zuerlein, especially considering the difference in size between the two parishes. St. Columbkille has more than 9,000 parishioners while St. Frances Cabrini has only a few hundred.

“It’s a change,” Zuerlein said. “The archbishop’s goal is to turn that around and to get the parish alive and growing.”

Zuerlein said he will miss being at St. Columbkille, especially the everyday interactions with the parish community.

From the Papillion Times

Instead of just giving something up for Lent, Megan Zelfel decided to do a little something extra.

The 13-year-old organized a fundraiser to help her family raise money for a wheelchair accessible van to transport her older sister.

The Times on our new Principal

St. Columbkille names principal
Meet the new boss.

St. Columbkille School hired its new principal last April, and he knows he has big shoes to fill.

Jim Makey started his new job this month, and is looking forward to his first year as principal. Makey, of Guthrie Center, Iowa, has been an educator for 33 years. His most recent job was principal at Logan Magnolia Elementary School in Logan, Iowa.

Working at a private Catholic school will be a new experience for him.

“I’ve been in public schools my whole life, so this is a switch for me,” he said.

Got Fireworks?

In their recent issue, the Papillion Times noted that the Fireworks tent run by the St. Columbkille Shepherds "is the longest consecutive nonprofit stand in Papillion."

So visit them at the corner of Washington (84th) and Centennial and get whatever fireworks you need this week.

Modeling the Chapel

The photo above is from an April, 1982 Papillion Times story on our church which was about to be dedicated. The model was created by our architect to help visualize the new church.

It turns out the architect still has the model, and he modified it so we could get a better understanding of his proposal for a new chapel. (Although he did not provide model people that could be situated within.)

His proposal is that the "alcove" to the north of the altar area be enclosed with a wall of etched glass and a tabernacle in the center. This would be so prominent that there would not be a need offset the Ascending Christ image above the choir area.

The back wall of the alcove would be removed and the area would expanded. 15 to 20 people would be able to pray in the chapel together. But it would be primarily used for Eucharistic Adoration. A new tabernacle would be installed where those in the chapel could view the host inside the tabernacle through bulletproof glass. There are similar tabernacles in parishes like St. Robert's and Holy Cross. The back wall would be even with the wall of the current back sacristy. There would also be stained glass windows installed.

So be certain to let Fr. Damian and/or members of the pastoral council what you think!

The Papillion Times on Our Seminarians

The Papillion Times recently ran an article on the five seminarians from our parish.
