Dancing in the Classroom

This year St. Columbkille is one of two Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese to work with Dancing Classrooms.

 

On Mondays and Wednesdays, instructors are coming to the 5th grade class rooms to teach dance to the students to achieve social awareness and build self-esteem.

Students are taught the vocabulary of various contemporary social dances in a classroom setting. Each class in the series introduces new steps, reinforcing what has been previously learned through practice and repetition.

 

After ten weeks the culmination of this experience is a  showcase where every child will perform. For now, we'll give a glimpse of where they are starting.

Trick or Treating at Papillion Manor

Today the 5th grade students at St. Columbkille Catholic School went trick or treating at Papillion Manor.

They began with a hike to Papillion Manor.

 

 St. John Vianney joined us there.

(btw: he hand sewed that hat himself.)

 Part of the event was trick or treating ...

 

... but the students also brought

 along prayer cards they had made ...

 ... and gave to the residents.

With some treats to sustain them, it was time to head back to school.

Feliz Cinco de Mayo

Yesterday there was an anticipatory Cinco de Mayo Fiesta for the 5th grade students at St. Columbkille Catholic School. It started with a picnic.

 

Each class had their own pinata.

 

 

 

 

 

 

There was even a conga line.

Lewis, Clark and 5th Grade

There was a field trip for the 5th grade students to visit a site where Lewis & Clark and their shadows had passed years before.

It was a chance for these students from St. Columbkille Catholic School to consider what Lewis and Clark saw when they first visited Nebraska.

 The displays were very "hands on."

 

 

 

 

They even visited a replica of the boat the explorers had used.

St. Columbkille Catholic School was delighted to have four Korean students study with us for the last few months. Kevin and Shawn each studied with one of our 6th grade classes while Grace and Christy each studied with one of our 5th grade classes.

Besides being a chance for the exchange students to learn about us, it also gave our students a better perspective of the world around us and realize that all over the world kids are very much alike. Today was their last day with us.

As you return home, we hope you always remember us.

Christmas Program Tonight

This morning was the last rehearsal before the Christmas Program tonight. It is being done by the 4th and 5th graders from St. Columbkille Catholic School.

Treat N Praying?

In their Halloween costumes, the 5th grade

students from St. Columbkille Catholic

School visited Papillion Manor.

They had a good walk getting there.

 

Students each brought a prayer...

 ... which they gave to a resident.

That includes Claire who is 107 years old.

Besides meeting the residents ...

 ... the students also received candy.

One of the residents said that her three children attended our school. Today she says one is a lawyer, another is a scientist and the third works for the government. She says that their education at (then called) Sacred Heart Academy served them well. She prays that our students get the same great education.
