Thanks to Ceili's 2015 Helping Hand!

You may not even notice it, but every classroom in the education center has one of these units. It allows for a wireless connection into our network. One of beautiful things about the network is that as Principal Makey carries an iPad from room to room, it will automatically connect without him doing a thing.

These units are just a part of the funds raised by the 2015 project done at Columb's Ceili this year. Every year the Ceili raises funds for a project to help the campus. This year it was working with the technology backbone to allow greater bandwidth and possibilies in the classrooms of the school and Religious Formation.

Dan Sullivan has been busy getting
 them all installed this summer.

In the classrooms, the lower grades have been doing more with iPads while the upper grades have been doing more with Chromebooks. With this work, we expect it to not only handle these needs, but also whatever gets invented next.

Thanks Ceili!

Fr Reeson Visits

Our future pastor, Fr. Dave Reeson was able to stop and visit the parish briefly today. His first priority was to stop and see Judy.

Fr. Dave fondly recalls many past pastors and associates who have served at St. Columbkille Parish previously. Although he had been in the church and the office numerous times, today was his first visit to the Education Center.

He ended up answering many questions from students.

Fr. Dave said that at first he was intimidated by the thought of following Fr. Damian as pastor. But Archbishop Lucas pointed out to him that there is a vibrant community and people at St. Columbkille that would take care of him. He looks working with the parish.

He even got a chance to see his future office.

A + B = Mystery

In January we told you about some Girl Scouts who were filming a movie in the Education Center.

The movie is finished.

So those involved with the movie (and their families) recently gathered to watch it together. It also gave them a chance to talk about the process and what they learned from it.

Part of the lesson is that movie making is a lot of work.

 Congratulations on your film!

New Carpets

When you remove the desks in the Education Center, it becomes obvious that the carpet has gotten a lot of wear.

This is the second summer of a five year process of replacing all of the carpet in the building.

 It looks much nicer now!

Signed

The signs on the Education Center and the Steinhausen Center were difficult to read ...

 ... so they came off.

 Here are the new signs:

We now have a sign on the north
side of the building as well.

The Mural of St Columbkille

Today, on the Feast of St. Columbkille, it seems appropriate to finally tell the story of the mural in the Education Center.

Last July the hall looked very different.

A layer of paint prepared the wall for the mural.

Then artist David Reiser got to work.

Mr. Reiser got some help from
his three children on the project.

He also got some help form Fr. Vogel on
the wording and the style of the letters.

During the school year, Fr Vogel brought all of the classes to the mural and explained the significance.

To the left is Ireland, St. Columbkille's homeland. To the right is the Island of Iona off the coast of Scotland. Here St. Columbkille and his twelve companions built the first of many monasteries as they brought the faith to Scotland. On the right you can see a dove as "Columbkille" literally means "Dove of the Church" in Gaelic. On the left, you can see the small boat carrying Columbkille and his companions to Scotland.

In the center is the Latin spelling of St. Columbkille as our saint composes one of his song.

If you haven't seen the mural yet, stop by the Education Center sometime for a look.

While it was a blessing to have this mural in the building for almost a year, it isn't quite complete. Mr. Reiser should be back this summer to finish it. So look for the minor addition in the fall.
