Jesus as Priest, Prophet and King

Fr. Damian's Advent Bible Study is underway using Fr Robert Barron's new series. This looks at the Old Testament foreshadowing of each of the offices of Jesus and how He fulfilled them.

Feel free to join in Monday at 9:00 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. in the Steinhausen Center for a look at "Jesus the King."

Priest Prophet and King

For our Advent Bible Study this year we will be using a new series from Fr. Robert Barron. The Priest, Prophet, King Study Program presents the Old Testament foreshadowing of each of Jesus’ three offices as priest, prophet and king and then describes how Jesus is the fulfillment of each as seen in the New Testament.

Mondays at 9:00 a.m. and

7:00 p.m. in the

Steinhausen Center

The lessons are as follows:
1. Adoratio: Adam as Priest and The High Priest
2. Challenging False Worship: Elijah the Prophet and The Word Made Flesh
3. Ordering the Kingdom: King David and the King of Kings

December 1: Jesus the Priest

December 8: Jesus the Prophet

December 15: Jesus the King

Each session will contain two twenty minute videos from Fr. Robert Barron with follow-up discussions led by Fr. Damian Zuerlein. The Bible Study takes place in the Steinhausen Center. Morning sessions will follow Mass. Each session lasts an hour and a half. Please bring your Bible.

Studying Romans

Fr. Damian's Bible Study on Romans has just begun. 

But it's not too late to come.

Arrows of Light

The December Cub Scout meeting was 

very special for some of our scouts.

 They received the Arrow of Light.

The highest rank in Cub Scouting is the Arrow of Light Award. Earning this rank prepares a Webelos Scout to become a Boy Scout. Webelos who have earned the Arrow of Light Award have also completed all requirements for the Boy Scout badge.

This award is the only Cub Scout badge that can be worn on the Boy Scout uniform when a boy graduates into a troop.

 Congratulations!

The Cub Scouts also went caroling. First they surprised Fr. Damian and his Bible Study.

Then they surprised Fr Vogel at his house.

The evening ended as the scouts

 were surprised by a special visitor.

Ruth: A Bible Study

Yesterday Fr. Damian's Bible

Study on the Book of Ruth began.

 

Part of the intent of all of Fr. Damian's Bible Studies is not only to learn about the book, but also how to learning to (and feeling confident about) reading scripture on our own.

 

Fr. Damian gave a lot of background for the study to explain things that people living in Bethlehem would have known automatically. It contains some very adult material and sometimes with a humorous approach.

Song of Songs

Come join us for an insightful look at one of the more famous books of the Bible: The Song of Songs. An ancient text accredited to King Solomon, it has been the source of inspiration to saints and sinners for centuries. It has been commented upon by St. Gregory the Great, St. Jerome, St. Cyril of Alexandria, St. Bernard, St. Theresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross and countless others as an image of the love affair between God and humankind.

In these days of preparation for Christmas, please join us for a Bible study that looks at one of the most famous love poems of all time. A morning (9 a.m.) and an evening session (7 p.m.) will be offered. Each session will be in the Steinhausen Center and will last approximately one and a half hours.

• November 29th - Introduction to the Song of Songs.
• December 6th - Mutual Yearning, Chapters One through Three.
• December 13th - One of Kind Love, Chapters Four through Six.
• December 20th - Love Affirmed, Chapters Seven and Eight.

Bible Study today

Our Lenten Bible Study this year will be on the Book of James. It is often described as one of the “Catholic Epistles” because of its emphasis on our response to God’s grace. Since Pope Benedict has made “justice” his focus of reflection during Lent, it seems appropriate to look at this book which deals with the Christian response to God’s gift of grace with faith and deeds.

March 8: An Introduction to the Book of James
March 15: Chapters 1 and 2, Deeds of Faith
March 22: Chapters 3 and 4, Call to Conversion
March 29: Chapter 5, Patience and Warnings.

The morning session will take place at 9:15 a.m. The evening session will begin at 7:00 p.m. Both sessions will take place in the Steinhausen Center and will last an hour and a half.
