Visiting Portal School in 1896

The Fourth Grade students from St. Columbkille Catholic School visited Portal School Wednesday as part of their study of Nebraska History.

There they went back to experience
what school was like in 1896.

The students would be asked questions orally ...

... other times they carefully followed
directions using their chalkboards.

It was very kind of the Papillion Historical Society to help us understand what school used to be like in our area.

They were fortunate that Fritz Weiss visited the school Wednesday. Mr. Weiss attended Portal School in the 1940s. It was his first time visiting the school since it was moved from the original location on Giles near 108th street.
