Cleansing Us like the Temple

Above and below are pictures of the Lateran Basilica that Fr. Wee took when he was in Rome. It is the cathedral of Rome and was built after Constantine's edict in 313 legalizing Christianity. It is considered the "mother and head of all the churches of the city and the world."

With the same vigor that Jesus showed cleansing the temple in today's Gospel, he desires to cleanse us. That idea is conveyed in the Prayer After Communion when celebrating Mass today:

O God, who chose to foreshadow for us the heavenly Jerusalem through the sign of your Church on earth, grant, we pray, that, by partaking of this Sacrament, we may be made the temple of your grace and may enter the dwelling place of your glory. Through Christ our Lord.
