In the 7th century monks decided to offer Mass the day after Pentecost for deceased community members. In the late 10th century the Benedictine monastery in Cluny moved their Mass for their dead to the day after All Saint's Day, November 2. The custom spread and in the 13th century, Rome put the feast on the Church Calendar of the entire Church.
In the nathex you can list people who should be prayed for this month. Tonight there will be a special Mass for deceased members of our community tonight at 7 p.m. in the church.
