Friday Devotions

Pope John XXIII
Fridays in general and, in particular, the first Friday of every month, are common days for Catholic devotions. For example, Pope John XXIII, whose papacy lasted from 1959-1963, practiced a Friday devotion to the Precious Blood of Christ shed on the first Good Friday.

Just as the Resurrection is celebrated every Sunday, Friday has long been a day of penance, not only during Lent but year-round. Some people pray the Novena to the Sacred Heart over the nine consecutive First Fridays that they attend Mass.

Friday devotions are one of the many opportunities for prayer in the Church.
