Preparing for First Reconciliation

During Baptisms the celebrant says, "You have asked to have your child baptized. In doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training them in the practice of the faith. It will be your duty to bring them up to keep God's commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking?"

The families here said yes to that question. As part of their child's preperation for their First Reconciliation, they came to the parish. Together they went through a number of activities to help their child growth in their faith and understanding of the sacrament.

Thank you for living your faith!

Painting Mary Out of the Darkness

Iconography is based on the idea that, in a prayerful
atmosphere, art can not only represent something
holy, but can, in itself, be holy.

Sunday afternoon Michael Debus demonstrated this as he
took a blank canvas and created a profile of Mary from
the pieta while music played and 180 people watched.

This piece will be auctioned at the Ceili on March 5th.

Supporting Santa Eulalia -- Our Sister School

During the last few school days before the Christmas break
students could wear jeans by donating 50 cents towards
our sister school, Santa Eulalia, in Guatemala.

The goal was to raise $300.

The actual amount raised was
$1500

BASIC

Friday was the second session of BASIC (Begining Apologetic Studies In Catholicism.) In addition to the main presentation on the Perpetual Virginity of Mary, there were anonymous questions that were answered. They included question on the role of dinosaurs in creation, tubal ligation, how should or shouldn't non-Catholics participate in Mass? why are there more books in the Catholic Bible? and do priests look down on Catholics who marry non-Catholics?

If you want to learn more about our faith and/or ask questions, the next BASIC session will be Friday January 28th at 7:00 in the church as the featured presentation wil be A Walk Through the Mass.
