The Rain Garden is Planted

Once of the biggest tasks was
 arranging all of the plants.

All the rain which falls on the parking lot is designed to flow into this area. Here the plants will capture and filter run-off before it enters the storm sewer system.

One in place, the real work of planting began.

It will be fun to watch them grow!

Planting 115 Trees

As part of Phase 2 of the Pave the Way project we're adding trees.

We are planting a total of 86 evergreen trees as well as 29 deciduous trees. While some folks seemed to think we were going to just flatten the property and pour blacktop on it, we really want to be good stewards and have something we can all be proud of.

Did You Notice?

The old bricks were taken out of some
 of our landscaping and replaced.

One of the unexpected challenges was that the sidewalk was poured after and around the previous stones.  So the cement had to be sawed straight before the new bricks could go in.

Some of the top pieces were glued. This way they
won't move if Fr. Vogel runs across them.

It seems that there are always little things like this happening around our campus to make it al look nice.

Planting the Courtyard

There was a swarm of activity in the courtyard last night as some beds were replanted and some of the new beds were planted.

It went so well, that in less than a hour clean-up had begun.

This morning some of the sprinklers are being put in place.

Tonight at 7:00 the planting continues as we finish it up.
Put on work clothes, bring some water and join us!

Blessed Kateri and Replanting the Courtyard

Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha (1656-1680) is honored by the Church as the patroness of ecology, nature, and the environment.  Tekakwitha's baptismal name is Catherine, which in the Iroquois languages is Kateri. Tekakwitha's Iroquois name can be translated as, "One who places things in order." or “To put all into place.”

It seems appropriate to ask the intercession of Blessed Kateri (today is her feast day) as we get ready to replant the courtyard on Monday and Tuesday nights starting at 7:00 p.m.

A great deal of work has gone into
creating areas for plants and flowers.

Sprinklers have also been added to keep plants alive.

Come help Monday or Tuesday night starting
at 7:00 p.m. as the courtyard is replanted.

Building Disciples Step by Step

Every year at Columb's Ceili, there is one project which we support. This year it was replacing the steps between the west parking lot and the courtyard as well as adding some landscaping.

This week that project has begun.

In yesterday's heat, concrete was poured.

Everything is proceeding towards our vision of the new courtyard.

Landscaping

Monday we showed some of the changes inside.

Today you can see some of the changes made on the south
side of Sacred Heart Preschool and the Education Center.

 Thank you!
