Each Spring: The Sign of Victory

Would it be too much to ask if our beautiful, mild weather could continue right into spring?

More than likely, winter isn't ready to go away just yet. But our little taste of spring is uplifting, a sign of things to come.

It reminds me of scenes from C.S. Lewis’ “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” in which winter – and the reign of evil – rapidly melt away as the kingdom of Aslan, the lion character modeled after Jesus, begins. Hope fills his followers as they see winter lose its grip.

But before evil, death and their enslavement through the long, long winter are vanquished, a horrible battle must ensue, because their cruel queen does not give up easily. And a main character’s life must be ransomed, because there’s a price demanded for his sins and betrayal. That price is paid with the cruel killing of Aslan, who becomes the ransom.

But of course, we know that’s not the end of the story – in Narnia nor in our own lives. The Savior wins a final, enduring victory for us.

God gives us a sign of that victory each spring. The season symbolizes the beginning of his kingdom and a promise of the eternal things to come.

Looking for Spring

Our spring books are out, but the weather hasn’t been cooperating!

This week we are finally beginning to see some encouraging signs at the preschool. Our butterflies have emerged from their cocoons.

We are planting seeds.

We even have a few daffodils

 in our preschool garden.

Next week, we take a field trip to the zoo.

We are praying spring will be here to stay!
