25 Years Teaching Together

This is the 25th year Mrs. Loeffler and Mrs. English have been teaching 1st Grade side by side. Today we celebrated them.





Afterwards Mrs. English asked her class, "How did you keep this a secret?" Then added, "I thought the exciting thing about the assembly would be Mr. Makey and Fr. Dave getting a pie in their face. Instead there were 500 pictures of me and you know how I don't like pictures of me."

One of the gifts to Mrs. Loeffler and Mrs. English were these marble jars. Every current student at St. Columbkille Catholic School made a fingerprint of a marble in the class they attended.

Class of 2011 Marble Party

A number of current seniors came to the Marble Party party Mrs. Loeffler, Mrs. English and Mrs. Tanner hosted last night. Many former students at St. Columbkille Catholic School fondly recall their First Grade teachers.

It was great to have former teachers (including Mrs. Fahey who somehow missed the picture) and a principal there to visit.

Some students were even fortunate to get a refresher course in handwriting, including how to properly hold a pen.

The Class of 2010 Marble Party

The members of St Columbkille Catholic School's Class of 2010 are High School Seniors now. They gathered Sunday night for a Marble Party before they go their separate ways.

As the alumni signed in, they also put a marble in the jar signifying whether they had been in Mrs. Loeffler's class or Mrs. English's class.

They also recalled wondering in First Grade whether one teacher's jar was bigger than the other or if one teacher's marbles were larger.

There were 17 alumni from 1A, however, there were only 16 marbles in the jar. Mrs. Rainbolt says that if the students didn't follow directions (a skill they clearly should have mastered in First Grade) then only the 16 count.

Meanwhile there were 14 alumni from 1B at the time of this picture, although Collin Gilmore and Chris Dethlefs arrived later because (Mrs. English says) they were diligently taking care of their homework first. Thus 16 1B former students were present.

In addition, there were three students present who came to the school after First Grade.

The alumni especially enjoyed some time atthe playground.

A Late Nite Lesson on the Catechism

 An full crowd gathered last night as a 

fundraiser for our St. Vincent de Paul Society. 

While the show was good on it's own, what made it special was the way Sister interacted with our parishioners: teaching and scolding them as needed.

Funds were also raised through a raffle

 as well as some silent auction items.

Sister also raised some money for

 the Notre Dame Sisters as well.

Marble Party!!!

The marble jar is used to reward good behavior. If her class is loud, Mrs. English will tell one of the quiet children they can put a marble in the marble jar. As every other child hears that marble drop, they instantly quiet themselves. When the marble jar is full, it means the first grade classes have a marble party. Today was a marble party.

Never before has a class gotten a marble party so early in the year.

There was even enough left for Mr. Nardini.

Fr Norman Visits

Former St Columbkille Catholic School student Fr. John Norman stopped by to visit today.

Mrs. English showed her current students the First Grade photo of one of her former students.

On Monday, Fr. Norman returns to Rome for his final year of school. He showed Mrs. Loeffler's class where Rome is.

Prompted by Mrs. Loeffler's enthusiasm for her current students, Fr. Norman decided they needed some more marbles in their marble jar.

The students in 1B were overwhelmed with excitement when Fr Norman loaded up their jar as well. The students are typically allowed to add just one marble to the jar when they behave well. Then, when the jar is full there is a class party. With Fr Norman's help, the next marble party is coming quicker than Mrs. Loeffler or Mrs. English had anticipated.

Fr. Norman's classroom tour finished in 3A visiting his Third Grade teacher and blessing the students.
