The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin

Mary discovered from the angel Gabriel that she would have a child who would be the Messiah. So what does she do next? Today's Gospel tell us that she went "in haste" to her relative Elizabeth who was pregnant and stayed with her for about three months.

It is a good lesson for us to serve those in need around us.

Worlds of Fun

Yesterday two busloads of our youth
and Fr. Vogel went to Worlds of Fun.

Some of the rides made it difficult
to text, but it was still fun.

Eucharistic Exposition Friday

Fr. Vogel will finish the 8:15 Mass on Friday by exposing the Eucharist for prayer. The Eucharist will remain out for prayer until about 10:00 a.m. when we will have Benediction.

So you can come for Mass and stay,
or come just for Benediction at 10:00,
or visit to pray anytime in between.

Fr Vogel will do this whenever he is here the First Friday of each month.

Fr. Cyclone

Rev. Lawrence Lynch was an Army chaplain in World War II. Self described as God's gift to the Army, this priest was nicknamed Fr. Cyclone by the troops due to his non-stop activity.

In April 1945, the 39-year-old priest found himself in a foxhole on Iwo Jima. When a nearby soldier was mortally wounded, an officer in the foxhole ordered Lynch to stay put. But Lynch leapt out to give last rites to the dying man.

As he held the communion host and spoke the Latin words for "The body of our Lord Jesus Christ ..." a shell exploded. Shrapnel tore through the chaplain's helmet, killing him instantly.

The same officer who had ordered Lynch not to go then jumped to the dead priest's side. He pried the host from Lynch's fingers and put it in his own mouth so that it would not be desecrated.

Happy Memorial Day

Memorial Day Masses will be held at each of the five archdiocesan Catholic cemeteries on May 30 at 10:00 a.m. Archbishop George Lucas will be the celebrant at Calvary Cemetery and Archbishop Emeritus Elden Curtiss will celebrate Mass at Resurrection Cemetary. Those attending should bring a lawn chair along for seating.

On Memorial Day we will have just one Mass at 9:00 a.m. tomoat St. Columbkille.

Happy Birthday Church!

As we celebrate Pentecost today, there is an option in Mass of a blessing. It goes like this:

May God, the Father of lights, who was pleased to enlighten the disciples' minds by the outpouring of the Spirit, the Paraclete, grant you gladness by his blessing and make you always abound with the gifts of the same Spirit

Amen

May the wondrous flame that appeared above the disciples, powerfully cleanse your hearts from every evil and pervade them with its purifying light.

Amen.

And may God, who has been pleased to unite many tongues in the profession of one faith, give you perseverance in that same faith and, by believing, may you journey from hope to clear vision.

Amen.

14 Stained Glass Windows

Sometime in the next month, the last fourteen stained glass windows will be put in the clerestory of the church as part of our remodel. Those windows have been designed. Those images are currently on display on the back bulletin board of the church.

Seven of the images (those going to the north of the current windows) depict images from the Life of Christ. The seven windows to the south of the current images remind us of what it means to be a Disciple of Christ.

For more information on the windows, click here.

A Minute to Win it

The Children's Choir gathered yesterday to celebrate the end of their singing season. As part of their celebration they played a number of one-minute games.

They threaded macaroni with a spagetti stick.

They knocked over cups with air from a balloon they blew up.

They tried to get an animal cracker from their
forehead to their mouth without using their hands.

Using one hand they sorted ten Skittles of each color.

There was also pizza and a crab volleyball game.

Thank you for helping with
 our liturgies this year!

Confirmed

Even the courtyard was prepared for Confirmations Sunday.
152 candiates were confirmed over two Masses.

The candidates gathered first for a group picture.

Then they lined up for the procession.

Within the Mass, Archbishop Lucas confirmed our candidates.

Congratulations!
We're depending on you to use your gifts!
