Teaching Chastity

"When we see the truth about our bodies and sex, we change our lives, but not out of guilt, or fear of pregnancy, or disease. We change our lives because God's view of love is everything the human heart longs for."
Jason Evert

"Only the pure of heart are capable of seeing the depth and mystery of sex. For the person who is pure, sex is a sacred gift and the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the foundation of chastity is the dignity of every person and the greatness of sex."
Jason Evert

"When we see God's plan for love, lust looks boring"
Jason Evert

Pope Benedict on 2011 World Media Day

"There exists a Christian way of being present in the digital world: this takes the form of a communication which is honest and open, responsible and respectful of others. To proclaim the Gospel through the new media means not only to insert expressly religious content into different media platforms, but also to witness consistently, in one’s own digital profile and in the way one communicates choices, preferences and judgements that are fully consistent with the Gospel, even when it is not spoken of specifically."

March For Life

Fr. Wee and over 400 youth from Nebraska were part
of the March For Life yesterday in Washington D.C.

Even Archbishop Lucas was there (above right).

There was also a chance to meet with Nebraska Congressmen.

In Philadelphia they ran the "Rocky Stairs."

Among the places they celebrated Mass were the
National Cathedral (left) and the Notre Dame Basilica (right).

They also visited the Shrine of St. Katherine Drexel.

Stopping at the King of Prussia Mall on the
way, Fr. Wee recorded the Flash Mob below:

They are on the bus for their return home. The picture to the left is as they
began  the 20 hour drive home. The second picture is five minutes later.

Thank you Marchers!
And thank you Fr. Zoucha for the pictures!

How Much Should I pray?

Saint Francis de Sales, whose feast day is today, once gave the following advice: “Everyone needs thirty minutes of personal prayer time each day, unless they are too busy to pray—in which case, they need an hour!”

Respecting Life

  • Fr Wee and 324 other members of our diocese are on their way to the National Mark for Life in Washington DC Monday.
  • Today is the anniversary of Roe versus Wade
  • Next Saturday (1/29/11) will be Nebraska's Walk for Life
  • This weekend the Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring the One Rose/One Life event after all Masses.

The Keynote Speaker at the Nebraska
Walk for Life is Melissa Ohden

Melissa is the survivor of a failed saline infusion abortion in 1977. Despite the initial concerns regarding Melissa’s future after surviving the attempt to end her life and being born alive at approximately six months
gestation, she has not only survived but thrived. With a Master’s Degree in Social Work, she has worked
in the fields of substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence/sexual assault counseling, and child welfare.

In Melissa’s own words, being an abortion attempt survivor encompasses so much more than just herself, or her fellow unborn brothers and sisters. Melissa has experienced firsthand the impact that her biological mother’s abortion has had on not only her biological parents, but also their parents, their siblings and their children. Her biological mother’s abortion attempt has not only impacted Melissa, herself, and her adoptive family, but also her husband and his family, her friends and acquaintances, and now her own child, Olivia. they live in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Respect Life Group chartered a bus to the Nebraska Walk for Life. The deadline to sign-up is Tuesday. Please contact Cathy Peterson at 504-1264 to come along.

Preparing for First Reconciliation

During Baptisms the celebrant says, "You have asked to have your child baptized. In doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training them in the practice of the faith. It will be your duty to bring them up to keep God's commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking?"

The families here said yes to that question. As part of their child's preperation for their First Reconciliation, they came to the parish. Together they went through a number of activities to help their child growth in their faith and understanding of the sacrament.

Thank you for living your faith!

Painting Mary Out of the Darkness

Iconography is based on the idea that, in a prayerful
atmosphere, art can not only represent something
holy, but can, in itself, be holy.

Sunday afternoon Michael Debus demonstrated this as he
took a blank canvas and created a profile of Mary from
the pieta while music played and 180 people watched.

This piece will be auctioned at the Ceili on March 5th.
