Singing with the composers

As part of the monthly Adult Formation programs, Fr. Roc O'Connor and Tony Ward were at the parish last night. While both are at Creighton, Fr. O'Connor may best be known as one of the St. Louis Jesuits. As Catholic liturgical music composers, they joined us to share the history of Catholic liturgical music as well as their experiences, and some great new music!

They also gave us a chance to sing along.

Roc & Tony talk about Music

Fr. Roc O’Connor, S.J., member of the St. Louis Jesuits, and Tony Ward, director of music ministry at St. John’s Church at Creighton and OCP artist, will talk about how is our musical tradition differs from others, what patterns there are in Catholic liturgical compositions, where we are today and where we are going.  Tony & Roc will discuss the craft of writing – the inspiration and perspiration – and how they see their music fitting within the needs of a faith community.  They will also answer your questions about what niches remain in Catholic music, and what impact the Third Edition of the Roman Missal might have on singing congregations.
