Happy Jubilee!

In 1961, Sr. Jean Marie Faltus entered Religious Life. Tomorrow (Saturday) she will celebrate 50 years of service.

She has taught at all levels from fourth grade to post-graduate classes at Creighton University. Thirteen years were spent at Daniel J. Gross Catholic High School teaching and as principal. She has lived in Omaha for 35 years, has attended St. Columbkille since 1996 and has been on the staff since 2001. She has spearheaded many ministries such as SPIRITuality ALIVE and Step Out and Serve.

The reception for her will be from 3:00 to 5:00 in the Steinhausen Center. We'll see if she brought Francie to celebrate.

St. Columbkille's Feast Day Today

Today is the Feast Day of St. Columbkille. While his feast is not on the US liturgical calendar, it is in Ireland and Scotland.

He was born in December of 521 and died on June 9, 597. He was born into a royal family and was sometimes known as St. Columba or "Columb Cille" which means "Dove of the Church." He entered religious life as a youth and started a number of monasteries in Ireland before bringing the faith to Scotland. He is considered second only to St. Patrick among Irish Saints and is the Patron Saint of Scotland. He is the patron saint of bookbinders, poets and navigators as well.

The following was taken from the Derry Diocesan Organizing Committee for the Columban Centenary Celebration 1997:

Columbkille was a man of outstanding gentleness and empathy. He was a kindly individual with a practical concern for people. He helped the unfortunate: interesting himself in the plight of a hostage; rehabilitating a reformed robber; curing a nun with a broken hip; assisting a woman in the pangs of child-birth with his prayers; providing destitute men with means of feeding themselves; and even at his death approached comforting others rather than seeking to be comforted. He had a profound sense of the worth of human beings and of the contribution they were making to society.

Above all, Columbkille was a man of prayer. Coming from a princely background with a commanding and practical personality he was bound to make an impact on his generation. His real greatness was that he was able to combine the advantages given him by temperament and birth with the ambition of sainthood.

Gathering for Religious Formation

Each morning of the summer session the Religious

Formation students gather in the gym with their friends.

 

 

 Then there is an all-age activity and prayer before

students go to class with their catechists.



Record Breaking Class in Religious Formation

Yesterday was the start of the Summer Religious

Formation Sessions. Every year we have more students.

Instead of having classes in the academic year, they have their

classes from 9 a.m. to noon for two weeks this summer.

 

Of course, besides there are snacks and recess.

 

Enjoy this experience of study, prayer, play and growth.

The 30th Anniversary

It was thirty years ago today that

Fr. Damian was ordained a priest.

And soon after was his first Mass.

In celebration, the Liturgy Committee served coffee and doughnuts in the Social Level after the 8:15 Mass this morning.

Fr. Damian brought an album of his ordination pictures.

Then the staff took him to a resteraunt where
you could use a flashlight/phone to read the menu.

Praying before the Blessed Sacrament

Worlds of Fun

On Tuesday 2 buses took 107 of our youth

to Worlds of Fun as a TEEN Faith event.

Then they had to decide which way to go.

 

 

 

They all seemed to find fun.

A Holy Day Tomorrow

On Thursday we celebrate Christ's ascension into heaven. Just before he ascended, he spoke the words which are the basis for our parish's mission statement: "Go and Make Disciples."

Because this is a Holy Day of Obligation in our diocese, we will offer the following Masses:

6:20 a.m.

8:15 a.m.

12:10 p.m.

5:30 p.m.

7:00 p.m.
