EMHC and Lector Training

Today the Archdiocese used our space as they did training for those who wish to be Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) or Lectors. Above Brother William spoke to both groups before they had more specific trainng for each ministry. Those who went through the training will be mandated by Archbishop Lucas and trained in the customs of their local parish before they begin their service to the Church.

Discipline With A Purpose

The Friday before school started, staff from St. Columbkille Catholic School, Sacred Heart Preschool and After School Care gathered for a seminar on Discipline With A Purpose.

There are certain skills that are expected and encouraged at different ages, but the approach should be consistent. This way discipline is consistent from classroom to classroom, from grade to grade, and even in After School Care.

Preschool is in session

Tuesday and Wednesday there was an Open House.
Students brought their supplies...

... had a chance to meet their teachers ...

 ... and make new friends.

Today and tomorrow are the first days of classes.

During God's time the students talked about the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
He is the namesake for Sacred Heart Preschool.

There was also time to play.

Can anything good come from Papillion?

In today's Gospel, when Philip tells Bartholomew that they have found the Christ: Jesus of Nazareth, he says, "Can anything good come from Nazareth?"

If we change the statement to "Can anything good come from Papillion?" we tend to laugh. In that we realize how the others reacted to that statement. We should also note that even though Bartholomew makes fun of Jesus's home town, Jesus still calls him as an Apostle.

30 Years Ago Today

30 years ago today was a Sunday. Here's a peek at what was in the bulletin on August 23, 1981:

The pastor was Fr. Robert Steinhausen, Fr. Patrick Henry was the Assistant Pastor and Fr. Robert Krajicek was in residence. The priests had nine Masses each weekend including one at St. Joseph's in Springfield (our Mission Parish) and one at a school in La Vista.

School starts at 8:15 tomorrow, August 24th and will dismiss at 12:00 noon. Uniforms will be worn the first day. There is a Welcome Back Skating Party Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Skateland 84th & F Streets. All Parishioners are invited. This is a good chance to get acquainted with our new families.

World Youth Day

World Youth Day is a gathering of youth from all around the world and it's going on right now. Here's what some participants are saying:

First Day of School

Today was the first day at St. Columbkille Catholic School.

It was the first chance Fr. Vogel
had to meet many students.

After taking pictures and seeing friends...

... it was time to get in the school routine.

It looks like we're off to a good start.

Last night and tonight are the two evenings of

Then it was time to find classrooms and meet teachers.

There was also the chance to sign up for things.

It was also a good time to catch up with friends.
